This weekend, all across
our country, people will be remembering, celebrating and giving thanks for the
freedom and independence we enjoy as a nation.
Because of the sacrifices, dreams, and goals of our Founding Fathers, we
have the privilege and honor of living in a democratic society. On July 4th, there were picnics, family
gatherings, food, time with friends, and fireworks to add to the festivities.
Celebrations like these
can be bittersweet, realizing that not every person in the world can or has
cause to celebrate like we do in the United States. But no matter where one lives, we all have
the opportunity to be free because of the gift of salvation from Jesus. It’s not the country, state, city, or
community where one lives that grants them personal freedom, but rather the One
to whom they choose to entrust their life.
Jesus
answered, “I am the way and the truth
and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” John 14:6
“Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” John 8:32
“So if the Son sets you free,
you will be free indeed.” John
8:36
Therefore, there is now no condemnation for
those who are in Christ Jesus, because
through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and
death. Romans
8:1, 2
Live
as free people, but do not use
your freedom as a cover-up for
evil; live as God’s slaves. I Peter
2:16
And the news about that
freedom is worth sharing and celebrating all year long!
