Ironically, this week,
in our “Read the Bible Through” plan for the year, we read the first two
chapters in Luke which recount the events of Jesus’ birth. Whereas we celebrate that “Season” by
recalling God’s gift of Jesus at Christmas, it is Easter that calls us to
remember, reflect, and respond to the “Reason” He came.
This week, I heard the
song, “It’s About the Cross” for the first time. What a beautiful reminder about the gift of
Jesus being the reason we can be born again and have eternal life with our
Heavenly Father. Because Jesus willingly
became the sacrifice for our sins, with his death, burial, and resurrection, we
are offered the gifts of forgiveness, salvation, new life, and purpose. Every day may our lives reflect our belief
that He is risen indeed!
“It’s About the Cross”
Band “Go Fish”
It’s not just about the manger
Where the baby lay
It’s not all about the angels
Who sang for him that day
It’s not just about the shepherds
Or the bright and shining star
It’s not all about the wisemen
Who travelled from afar
Chorus:
It’s about the cross
It’s about my sin
It’s about how Jesus came to be born once
So that we could be born again
It’s about the stone
That was rolled away
So that you and I could have real life today
It’s about the cross
It’s about the cross
It's not just about the presents
Underneath the tree
It's not all about the feeling
That the season brings to me
It’s not
just about coming home
To be
with those you love
It’s not
all about the beauty
In the
snow I’m dreaming of
Repeat
chorus
The
beginning of the story is wonderful and great
But it’s
the ending that can save you and that’s why we celebrate
It’s
about the cross
It’s
about my sin
It’s
about how Jesus came to be born once
So that
we could be born again
It’s
about God’s Son
Nailed to
a tree
It’s
about every drop of blood that flowed from Him
When it
should have been me
It’s
about the stone
That was
rolled away
So that
you and I could have real life someday
So that
you and I could have real life someday
It’s
about the cross
It’s
about the cross
It’s
about the cross
But
he was pierced for our transgressions,
he was crushed for our iniquities;
the punishment that brought us peace was on him,
and by his wounds we are healed.
he was crushed for our iniquities;
the punishment that brought us peace was on him,
and by his wounds we are healed.
Isaiah 53:5
He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay.
Then
go quickly and tell his disciples: ‘He
has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee.
There you will see him.’ Now I have told you.”
Matthew 28:6-7
“For
the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”
Luke 19:10
But God demonstrates his own love for us in
this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Romans
5:8
If you declare with
your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe
in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
For it is with your
heart that you believe and are
justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.
Romans
10:9-10
But if we walk in the light, as he is in the
light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son,
purifies us from all sin.
I John 1:7
Therefore,
if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone,
the new is here!
2 Corinthians 5:17
Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed
is the one who takes refuge in him.
Psalms 34:8
