Actions Count

Patrick Mahomes II played college football and baseball at Texas Tech University.  I am a Texas Tech fan, Mahomes fan, and somewhat of a Kansas City Chiefs fan because of that.  Even though the Chiefs lost in the AFC Championship playoffs against the Cincinnati Bengals, there were still some noteworthy winning and defining moments for the playoff games.

Bob Barbour is a loyal Chiefs fan.  In a recent post, he shared several of the reasons why he is supportive of the team and the people of Kansas City.  Around Thanksgiving, it was most likely that the Chiefs would conclude their season without earning a spot in the playoffs.  According to Barbour, “Michael Irving ‘stuck a fork’ in the Chiefs and we came out with a vengeance, mounting one of the most remarkable turn-arounds I’ve ever seen, winning every single game but one for the rest of the season.  We don’t give up, we don’t let analysts disrupt our determination, and we never think we can’t fix what goes wrong. We went from the bottom of the AFC West to the projected winners of the AFC Championship, and that all by itself says more about this team than anything.”

In the NFL Divisional Game, the Chiefs won over the Bills.  Barbour shared that the Chiefs fans generously donated nearly $500,000 to Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen’s Patricia Allen Fund, which benefits the John R. Oishei Children’s Hospital of Buffalo.  The Bills fans also complimented the people of Kansas City on their hospitality, good sportsmanship and helpfulness before, during, and after the game.

Ashanti was chosen to sing the National Anthem for the AFC Championship game.  Due to technical difficulties, the microphone cut in and out during the song.  Without hesitation, the Chiefs and Bengals fans joined in singing, in beautiful harmony, “The Star Spangled Banner.”  What could have been an embarrassing and humiliating problem allowed the fans and participants to join together for a few moments of patriotism

Barbour also pointed out the respect he has for Patrick Mahomes.  After the game, Patrick didn’t blame the coaches, calls by the refs, or other players for the loss.  After throwing an interception, Mahomes took the blame stating, “Yeah, I did that wrong.”  In such a high-pressure situation, Barbour reminded people, “He has led us to the playoffs every year he has played for KC and has taken us to the Superbowl twice and won once in just 4 years.  This is a remarkable human being who has a long career ahead of him and realizes he still has so much to learn to be as great as he is capable of being.”
