Just Do It

You don’t have to be perfect

to be able to bless

someone else.

You just need to show up,

to love, to give, to care.

This world doesn’t need

perfection.

It just needs you.

~ Rachel Marie Martin

Recently, a man’s wife died unexpectedly.  Wanting to spend time with the man, his friend invited him to the club for a round of golf.   As the two friends were playing, the topic of dinner came up in their conversation.  The friend said his wife wanted him to make chili and cornbread for dinner.  He was lamenting the fact that, after hours of playing golf, he would need to stop by the store, purchase the ingredients, and then go home and make dinner.  They played a few more holes when the man said, “Make the chili.”  The friend responded, “It took me a few minutes to realize we were no longer talking about dinner.  It was about going out of your way to do something for someone you love because at any moment, they could unexpectedly be taken from you.”  He then challenged, “Next time someone you love wants you to go for a walk or watch a football game or play a board game or just put your phone down and give them your undivided attention, just do it.”

As God prompts and nudges, may we, without hesitation, willingly express love and care with our words, actions, deeds, and time.  And as my wise friend, Jim Rogers, says, “Live your life in such a way that you have no regrets.”

And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds,

Hebrews 10:24

Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.

James 1:22
