By the end of the 1st period class, Price Lawrence’s students noticed that something was bothering him. When asked, he explained that his wife’s father had passed away and he was worried about her. The students said they were sorry and then quietly continued to work on their assignment. When the dismissal bell rang, there were still high fives given to Mr. Lawrence on the way to 2nd period. One girl handed Price a folded up note with something in it. She said, “This is for your wife. I know it was real expensive when my daddy died, and I don’t really want ice cream today anyways.” Lawrence confided, “I wish the world would pay more attention to children. We could learn a lot from them.”
Mike is 93-year-old Air Force veteran who lives in a retirement home in California. Every night, he and his friend, Doris, share a Hershey bar. The last bar had been eaten so on Tuesday Mike slipped out of the place where he lives to walk 1.5 miles to the 99-cent store. After a few minutes, he decided to hitchhike. Rich Farmer, a real estate broker in Lake San Marcos, had just left the office on his lunch hour when he noticed Mike. He made a U-turn and went back to check on the elderly man. He found out he was on his way to buy 30 Hershey bars. Rich helped Mike into his truck and drove to the store. After shopping, Rich explained to Mike that he was taking him back to his retirement home. As he let him out, Rich gave Mike one of his business cards and said, “Next time you need something no need to try and hitch a ride, just give me a call and I look forward to meeting Doris.” The next Monday, Rich took Mike to do some grocery shopping.
The members of Meades Branch Freewill Baptist Church, in Louisa, Kentucky, were in the process of tearing down their church and rebuilding when Hurricane Helene hit. They decided to put those plans on hold and go to a hard-hit area and help rebuild three houses. After completing that project, they came home to again make plans for their church. Then the great floods hit their area in Kentucky and a decision was made to use their money to rebuild four houses in their town. The church rebuild was now postponed. At an update meeting, a lady approached the pastor and told him about Mississippi Nail Benders. The organization was founded in 1994 by twin brothers Mack and Jack Honea. When churches don’t have the resources to rebuild, they help. They have five teams that follow each other to complete the process. When the pastor contacted Mississippi Nail Benders, he was told that their big project for the year had just cancelled. After more discussions, the organization selected Meades Branch Church for their next project! The last service in the church was May 6. The tearing down begins this week and the Mississippi Nail Benders begin building on May 26, 2025!
May God continue to help us to be willing and compassionate helpers.
Finally, all of you, be like-minded, be sympathetic, love one another, be compassionate and humble.
