It is interesting to
watch the ripple effect when a stone or rock is thrown into water. The circle of impact continues to add more
rings as it spreads in larger circles.
The sphere of impact is even more amazing when it happens with people.
Don Douglas, 84, is
legally blind. The use of an enlarging
projector allows Don the ability to continue to read. He recently read an article in the Mesquite
newspaper about how a lot of children in the school in his community did not
get enough to eat. Upset about the
students being hungry, Don went to Florence Elementary School and requested an
appointment with the principal. After
meeting, principal Ladonna Gulley reported, “He literally went into his
billfold, pulled out $100 and said, ‘I’m giving you this money and this is to
make sure that every single student in your building has the opportunity to
eat.’”
Don didn’t stop his
caring after the first ripple. He
continues to give $100 a month to the school to ensure he is doing his part in
alleviating the hunger problem. As word
has spread, others are now participating as well. People from the community, as well as other
states, have sent money to help provide food for the students who attend
Florence Elementary while others have been inspired to give money to schools in
their own area.
Meanwhile, Steve Harris
heard about Don Douglas’ good deed.
Steve works for a company called Seeboost. The company produces a magnifying piece that
attaches to glasses which allows some people to be able to see much
clearer. Steve wanted to pay it forward and bless Don with the eye glasses device. It worked and allowed him to read and see
much better. Don could now read from a
book without the projector!
Two weeks after
receiving the device, Don went to the school so he could see the faces of the
children he was helping. He also read a
story, straight from the book, to the students.
Knowing that our actions
and deeds also have the potential to make an impact, may the ripples we make this week be ones that contribute to
a positive difference for God’s Kingdom’s work.
For
we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God
prepared in advance for us to do.
Ephesians 2:10
Do
nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value
others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to
the interests of the others.
Philippians 2:3-4
So
whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
I Corinthians 10:31
