Respect

Melvin Anderson, a seventh grader at Buffalo Creek Academy Charter School, was made fun of by some classmates because of his shoes which were well worn, dirty, and had holes in them.  Romello “Mello” Early didn’t want his friend to be in that position, just because that was the best his family could afford.  Mello was crying when he called his mother to let her know what happened.  Having been picked on about his height, Mello did not want that feeling for his friend.  That afternoon, when he arrived home from school, Mello asked his mother if he could use his allowance to buy Melvin a new pair of tennis shoes.  Knowing he still was short on the amount of money needed, Mello asked his mom to return one of his Christmas gifts.  His mother agreed and then took him to purchase a pair of Nike shoes.  The next day Mello excitedly presented his friend with the box of new shoes.  Seeing the exchange, Bryant Brown Jr., Dean of Culture at Buffalo Creek Academy, asked the boys to go to his office to ask what was in the box.  He was teary-eyed when Mello explained why he purchased the shoes for his friend.  Mello explained, “Treat someone the way you want to be treated, because God always gives back for good deeds.  I just wish people would treat other people better.”

According to ESPN, and several other sports groups, Japan left their dressing room spotless, after their amazing World Cup win over Germany.  When the game ended, their fans stayed and cleaned up the trash left behind in the stands.  Due to their show of respect, Team Japan has already shown itself to be a winner in life.

Dakota Cadd, a teenager, has Dandy-Walker Syndrome, seizures, and cerebral palsy.  He and his family live off of highway 26 in Milton, Wisconsin.  From his wheelchair, Dakota enjoys sitting by the fence in a big open field and watching the big trucks drive by.  He is most excited when the driver honks the horn or slows down.  Mark King, a truck driver for CH Hall Trucking, had noticed Dakota watching for the semis.  One day he placed a CH Hall Trucking t-shirt, cap, and a toy semi-truck over the fence for Dakota to find.  Peggy Cadd said it made her son’s day.

May showing respect be a part of our daily choices and lifestyle.

Show respect to everyone, love the family of believers, fear God, honor the emperor.
